This fishing float consists of a long piece of wood with a stone weight at the end that enables the float to stand vertically in the water. The original fishing line remains wrapped around the finial, which assumes the form of a bonito fish. These floats were used to catch garfish and flying fish during the summer (Waite 1987: 55–6).
