A very unusual stool. I’ve not seen another example. Purchased in England in the 1980s.

According to William Siegmann (1977: 57), "Kpelle, Loma, and Bandi dancers use stools of this type to rest upon during breaks in performance. Typically, the tops have incised patterns similar to those found on the low, four-legged stools in daily use. These named geometric designs frequently duplicated the scarification patterns with which women had their backs and stomachs decorated as signs of beauty."
